Next MonsterVerse Movie Lands ‘I Am Mother’ Director Grant Sputore

With Godzilla vs Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New World director Adam Wingard taking a break from the MonsterVerse, Legendary needed a new filmmaker to step in. And as we suggested weeks ago, they might look to tap a director with a similarly indie background. That’s exactly what they’ve done with the hiring of Grant Sputore.

Deadline reports Grant Sputore will direct the next MonsterVerse movie which Legendary wants to get moving on quickly. Who’s he? Well, Sputore directed the awesome 2019 sci-fi film I Am Mother starring Hilary Swank. It’s been quiet for Sputore since then, and he’s leveling up in a big way taking on such a lucrative franchise that commands a huge budget.

We know very little about what the next movie will be. Shang-Chi writer Dave Callaham is tackling the script, but that’s all the info we’ve got. There’s a lot riding on the sequel, however, since Godzilla x Kong earned $569M worldwide and became the highest-grossing MonsterVerse movie. Assuming Godzilla and King Kong will find reason to engage in another round of kaiju kickboxing, before teaming up to defeat a new Titan threat.

As for Wingard, he’s wrapping up his original film Onslaught for A24, and he’s also been attached to a Thundercats movie.
