‘Merciless’: Jonathan Majors Lands Comeback Film In Revenge Thriller From Martin Villeneuve

Reports of the end of Jonathan Majors’ career have been seriously exaggerated. Deadline reports Majors will star in Merciless, a supernatural revenge thriller from Martin Villeneuve. If that last name sounds familiar, Martin is the younger brother of Dune director Denis Villeneuve.

Merciless is based on an original screenplay by Frank Hannah, and follows a “top CIA interrogator who, after the woman he loves is overtaken by a malevolent force, is forced to go even darker to defeat it.” Filming begins this fall.

Majors has been untouchable since he was convicted of third-degree assault and harassment of an ex-girlfriend last December. The accusations led to projects he had coming up, such as Magazine Dreams, being shelved. It also led to Marvel firing him from his role as Kang the Conqueror and a big part to play in the next two Avengers movies.

How this goes could tell us a lot about Majors’ future in Hollywood. If the film is a hit, you can bet that all will be forgiven. But if audiences reject Majors he could be finished for the long haul.

What do you think? Do Majors’ convictions impact your decision to buy a ticket for a movie he’s in?
