Is there anyone who doesn’t love Stephen Fry? I think everybody can find something they simply adore him for, whether it’s Blackadder, V for Vendetta, or Bright Young Things. For me, it was his run on Bones, among many other things. Fry’s latest could win him a bunch of new fans as he stars in the father-daughter road trip dramedy Treasure, alongside Girls creator Lena Dunham.
While both Fry and Dunham are known for their filmmaking, Treasure is directed and co-written by Julia von Heinz, known for the 2020 political thriller And Tomorrow the Entire World. The script was co-written by John Quester and based on the book Too Many Men by Lily Brett.
Here’s the synopsis: A father-daughter road trip set in 1990s Poland, Treasure follows Ruth (Dunham), an American music journalist, and her father, Edek (Fry), a charmingly stubborn Holocaust survivor, on a journey to his homeland. While Ruth is eager to make sense of her family’s past, Edek embarks on the trip with his own agenda. This emotional, funny culture clash of two New Yorkers exploring post-socialist Poland is a powerful example of how reconnecting with family and the past can be an unexpected treasure.
Bleecker Street will release Treasure into theaters on June 14th.
