‘Peacemaker’: Frank Grillo Joins Second Season, Reprising His ‘Creature Commandos’ Role Of Rick Flag Sr.

James Gunn’s DCU is coming together quickly. Already we’ve had our first glimpse of David Corenswet as Superman, and Milly Alcock has been set to play Supergirl. It’s a brand new vibe over at DC Studios…for the most part. Peacemaker, Gunn’s MAX series starring John Cena as his ultra-violent character from The Suicide Squad, is coming back for season two, making it one of the rare projects to carry over. And now we’re seeing that the show will tie-in to the wider DCU by bringing over Frank Grillo’s character from the animated series Creature Commandos.

James Gunn confirmed on Threads that Frank Grillo will reprise his Creature Commandos role as Rick Flag Sr. in Peacemaker‘s second season. This is interesting, because Flag will play another leader working for Amanda Waller’s Task Force X. Peacemaker murdered Flag Sr.’s son, Rick Flag Jr., at the conclusion of The Suicide Squad, so expect there to be some conflict.

Gunn said, “Pleased to announce the great Frank Grillo will be reprising the role of Rick Flag, Sr – the role he’ll first play in animated form in ‘Creature Commandos’ – throughout Season 2 of ‘Peacemaker.’ Christopher Smith and Rick Sr. have a little unfinished business to take care of…”

Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, and Steve Agee will reprise their roles from Peacemaker season one.

So add yet another comic book role for Grillo, who previously played Crossbones in Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War.
