Over the last few weeks, we’ve seen the cast of Danny Boyle and Alex Garland’s 28 Years Later come together. And now we know when the anticipated sequel will hit theaters: June 20th 2025.
Sony has set the summer date for 28 Years Later, a direct sequel to 2002’s post-apocalyptic horror 28 Days Later. The events of 2007’s 28 Weeks Later, which Boyle and Garland were not attached to creatively, will not be addressed.
Set to star in the film are Jack O’Connell, Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes. Rumors are that original star Cillian Murphy could make an appearance, but nothing is confirmed.
The film is the start of a new trilogy, with Nia DaCosta (Candyman) directing the next installment. Both movies will be shot back-to-back.
Boyle will direct from a script by Garland, with the story returning us to a world that has been overrun by people infected by a rage virus that makes them aggressive and zombie-like.
