‘What You Wish For’ Trailer: Nick Stahl Cooks Like His Life Depends On It In New Thriller

Nick Stahl is literally cooking like his life depends on it in the new trailer for What You Wish For, a culinary thriller with a bit of stolen identity thrown in. Stahl plays Ryan, a down ‘n out sous chef who assumes the identity of his dead chef buddy Jack in order to land a lucrative catering gig. But Ryan gets more than he bargained for when the event’s host, Imogene (Tamsin Topolski), threatens his life if the diners are displeased.

The film is directed and written by Nicholas Tomnay, whose 2010 film The Perfect Host is also about a dinner party that goes horribly wrong. This guy definitely has a theme he likes to carry forward.

Also in the cast are Randy Vasquez, Penelope Mitchell, Juan Carlos Messier, and Brian Groh.

Here’s the synopsis: Ryan (Nick Stahl) is a talented, down-on-his-luck chef with crushing gambling problems. Circumstances being what they are, he leaves town in a hurry for the safe haven of an unnamed Latin American country where his friend Jack (Brian Groh), a more prestigious chef with his own unique troubles, welcomes him into his home. Ryan has no idea how Jack’s able to afford his extravagant lifestyle cooking for the elite in paradise; he doesn’t want to feel envious, yet he can’t help but want this life for himself as well. Soon, a grim twist of fate will give that to him. Ryan assumes his friend’s identity and soon discovers just what Jack’s been doing to maintain the lifestyle he so desperately craved.

Magnet Releasing will release What You Wish For in theaters and on VOD
May 31st, 2024.
