‘The Stranger’ Trailer: Maika Monroe And Dane DeHaan Star In Ex-Quibi Series Now A Hulu Horror Flick

Anytime you put your trust in a complete stranger to drive you around, you’re putting your life in their hands. Naturally, horror filmmakers have picked up on this and have created an entire subgenre of movies dealing with deadly rideshares from Hell. Remember when you could make a movie like Taxi and it’d be funny? Well, not anymore. And in The Stranger, Maika Monroe plays a rideshare driver who really wishes she hadn’t picked up Dane DeHaan.

The film stars Monroe, known for It Follows and God is a Bullet, as a rideshare driver who is tormented by Carl, played by Oppenheimer‘s Dane DeHaan, who she picks up and seems nice at first, but quickly becomes her worst nightmare. Also in the cast is Avan Jogia.

Interestingly, The Stranger began life as a Quibi series that premiered back in 2020. But when Quibi folded, Hulu picked up and compiled the episodes into a feature film, directed by creator Veena Sud, best known for The Killing.

Here’s the synopsis: Starring breakout scream queen Maika Monroe, Dane Dehaan, and Avan Jogia, “The Stranger” takes you on an edge-of-your-seat ride as rideshare driver Clare (Monroe) goes through a twelve-hour fight for survival when she picks up Carl (DeHaan), a passenger who becomes her worst nightmare. The thriller takes you on an escalating journey that underscores the power of justified female rage and vengeance.

Hulu premieres The Stranger on April 15th.
