James Gunn’s DCU is coming into focus. Following its kickoff with Superman in 2025, there’s Supergirl, based on Tom King’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic book. With the lady Kryptonian already set to be played by House of the Dragon breakout Milly Alcock, the film may also have a director with Craig Gillespie reportedly in talks.
Gillespie is best known as the director behind I, Tonya, Cruella, and the Pam & Tommy miniseries. His most recent film, Dumb Money, was released last year.
Supergirl already has a screenplay by Ana Nogueira who was hired last fall. Nogueira had been working on a previous Supergirl script that would’ve starred Sasha Calle if The Flash had been more successful.
While Gillespie isn’t a director known for visual flourishes, he has often pulled incredible performances from his leading ladies. His films have highlighted the turns by Margot Robbie, Emma Stone, and Allison Janney, just to name a few.
Supergirl doesn’t have a release date. But with Superman filming now for release in July 2025, it’s likely that we’ll see it arrive in 2026. [Deadline]
