‘Scary Movie’ Reboot On The Way Next Year From ‘Fast & Furious’ Producer

Scary Movie…is making a comeback. The horror parody franchise has been on the shelf for a decade, but Paramount and Miramax announced at CinemaCon that it’s set to rise from the grave with a new film set to go into production this fall.

Fast & Furious uber-producer Neal H. Moritz is behind the new Scary Movie, but no other creatives are known at this point. The plan is for the film to arrive next year, which probably means around Halloween.

Scary Movie debuted in 2000 with Keenan Ivory Wayans as director. The film largely skewered the horror genre and the hot movies at the time, which were Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, etc. It was a huge hit, earning $278M on a $19M budget, launching a franchise that continued to Scary Movie 5 in 2013. By that point, the movies had stopped ripping horror and turned their attention to celebrity culture, reality shows, and more generic targets. Anna Faris starred in four of the movies, but it’s doubtful she or anyone from the original cast will return. [FearHq]
