The directing duo of Radio Silence, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, have won their share of fans with horror films Ready or Not, and Screams 5 & 6. In a few days they’ll be releasing their next horror, Abigail, which looks absolutely insane and reunites them with actress Melissa Barrera. But the filmmakers have already lined up their next film, and it’s going to be something completely different with a surprising star: Andy Samberg.
Deadline reports that Radio Silence have teamed up with Andy Samberg on an untitled comedy that they would direct. Samberg will produce and potentially star in the film, which has a script by Andrew Lanham, a frequent collaborator with Destin Daniel Cretton who worked with him on Shang-Chi, The Glass Castle, and Just Mercy.
Plot details are under wraps but the film is being described as a “robot comedy”, whatever that means. A comedy about robots, or a comedy led by robot characters? Hmmmm…
Sandberg hasn’t actually led a film since the excellent Palm Springs in 2020. Since then he’s voiced characters in Chip n Dale: Rescue Rangers, Hotel Transylvania: Transformania, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
Whatever this new project shapes up to be, the bidding war has begun with multiple offers on the table. Expect it to land somewhere soon.
