‘Joyride’ Trailer: More Olivia Colman As She Steers Into An Odd Couple Road Trip Comedy

Can there ever be enough Olivia Colman? Nah, I don’t think so, either, and certainly not during awards season when she is such a fixture. This year she finds herself again in the race as part of Sam Mendes’ Empire of Light, but also coming this December is the Irish-British road comedy, Joyride, which looks pretty cozy.

In Joyride, Colman stars as Joy, a solicitor with plans to give up her newborn child. But that plan is thrown off track by the sudden arrival of 13-year-old Mully, an opinionated boy who has just lost his mother and is fleeing his thieving father in a stolen taxi.

Colman is joined in the cast by Charlie Reid and Lochlann Ó Mearáin. The film is directed by Emer Reynolds (The Farthest) from a script by Ailbhe Keogan.

Joyride opens in theaters and digitally on December 23rd.

JOYRIDE follows 12-year-old Mully (Reid), who, after fleeing his father, steals a taxi and is shocked to find a woman, Joy (Colman), in the back seat with a baby. Joy has decided to give her child away to a friend, and Mully needs some distance from his debt-ridden dad, who’s after the cash Mully has with him. And so two lovable rogues – a complicated middle-aged mother and a troubled adolescent – go on a journey across Ireland, gradually finding in each other the friendship, love, and learning they never knew they needed.
