‘Rebel Moon’ R-Rated Director’s Cuts Will Total Six Hours, Likely Released On Same Day

The partnership between Netflix and Zack Snyder has been wildly successful, and there’s no way they’re going to pull back on that. Last year’s Rebel Moon was one of the streamer’s most-watched original films, and next month brings the sequel, The Scargiver. But we also know that Snyder has extended, R-rated cuts on the way. And now we know exactly how long those movies will be, and how they’ll arrive.

Here’s what Snyder told I Minutemen in a recent interview…

“Those will come out, probably, on the same day – later. We don’t have a date yet, but I think it’s going to be in the summer.”

“They’re each about an hour longer than the originals, the PG-13 [versions]. So it’ll be nice to see the six hours together. You can take a break, of course. It’s a more, maybe, immersive experience. I’m interested for people to see it that way. It’s very adult, it’s very R-rated.”

So there you have it. Both Rebel Moon films will have extended cuts that are about an hour longer in length, totalling about six hours. They’ll be R-rated, with Snyder later saying to expect plenty of sex and violence, and likely arrive on the same day on Netflix. It’s part of a deal he struck to release PG-13 versions of the films first, so audiences know what they’re in for.

The problem is that audiences generally didn’t like what they saw. While critics gave the first movie a terrible 21% on Rotten Tomatoes, the audience score isn’t great either at 58%. But I look to Zack Snyder’s Justice League as the model here, as well as the Ultimate Edition of Batman v Superman, which were both much better than their predecessors.

Rebel Moon-Part Two: The Scargiver hits Netflix on April 19th.
