‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’ Producer Confirms Next Film Is A Reboot

Your casual moviegoer probably doesn’t know or care who the producers are on a movie. But everyone knows a Jerry Bruckheimer film because he’s known for blockbuster franchises such as Bad Boys, Top Gun, and Pirates of the Caribbean. He’s currently out doing press for Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, but he stopped to give a slight clarification on the next ‘Pirates’ movie, which is moving forward without Johnny Depp.

Speaking coyly with Comicbook.com, Bruckheimer confirmed the upcoming sixth Pirates of the Caribbean film will be a reboot. Sorry, the ship has sailed on Jack Sparrow.

“But we’re gonna reboot Pirates, so that is easier to put together because you don’t have to wait for certain actors,” Bruckheimer said with a clear reference to Depp there at the end.

Disney set forth with two competing scripts for new Pirates movies. One, written by Birds of Prey‘s Christina Hodson, has Margot Robbie circling the lead role. Another, penned by Chernobyl writer Craig Mazin and franchise vet Ted Elliot, is rumored to have Ayo Edibiri attached. Earlier rumors had Karen Gillan set to play Redd, a character from the Disneyland attraction, but it’s possible that idea has moved to Robbie.

There are lot of questions still left unanswered, but we have an answer for one at least. Depp is done, Pirates of the Caribbean is starting fresh, and that’s probably for the best.
