Anthony Mackie has been Captain America for a few years now, but he doesn’t make his solo movie debut until Captain America: Brave New World next February. But Mackie still longs for the camaraderie on the set of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the series that paired him with Sebastian Stan and Daniel Bruhl. Unfortunately, a reunion doesn’t appear to be happening.
Speaking with Radio Times about his Peacock series Twisted Metal, Mackie confirmed that a second season of Falcon and the Winter Soldier isn’t in the cards…
“I really enjoyed doing that show. I was actually excited to do a second season, just so me and Sebastian can get paid to hang out. Because it’s like me, him and Daniel Brühl. It’s kind of like the perfect storm of happiness.”
That’s unfortunate because it’s one of the few Marvel shows that actually worked. Perhaps because it had a very clear purpose and direction for its characters. Plus Mackie, Stan, and Bruhl were clearly having a ball and it showed. The meme-able content that emerged from those three was hilarious.
Marvel never made any sort of statement regarding the show’s future, but Mackie knew there’d be no sequel “when they decided to go back to the movies. It is what it is, but I don’t have my friends anymore, so it kind of dampens it a little bit.” But at least Mackie got to share the show’s legendary bit of Brühl’s Helmut Zemo dancing in a nightclub. “Anything I can do to hang out with Daniel, a dancing Daniel Brühl, makes me very happy.
Captain America: Brave New World hits theaters on February 14th 2025. And I would expect to see Bruhl as Baron Zemo again when Thunderbolts arrives in May 2025.
