Box Office: “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” Freezes Out the Competition to Take The #1 Spot

  1. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (review) – $45.2M

To no ones surprise the Ghostbusters sequel took the top spot, but don’t schedule the ticker tape parade just yet. With a total domestic take under $50M it’s hard to see this as a blockbuster smash. Granted, I’m still adjusting to the baseline for a huge movie NOT being $100M opening weekend, but even post-COVID in mind and adding in the $16.2M international take it’s a stretch to see this as a huge win for the franchise.

2. Dune: Part Two– $17.6M/$233.3M

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two continues to rake it in holding on to the #2 spot all while being shown in about 400 theaters fewer. Thank God too, I’m sure, like me, you were a bit frustrated by the second cliffhanger ending of the series and are praying nothing goes sideways that will prevent the making of Dune: Messiah

3. Kung Fu Panda 4 – $16.7M/$133.2M

4. Immaculate (review) – $5.3M

5. Arthur The King– $4.3M/$14.6M

6. Late Night with the Devil (review)- $2.4M/$2.7M

The AWESOME found footage possession film starring David Dastmalchian closed out it’s weekend with the kind of press you can’t buy when the films Sunday ticket sales numbers came in. The satanically titled horror film pulled in a deliciously evil $666k dollars on Sunday. Just another awesome point to the great story surrounding the release of this film.

7. Imaginary– $2.8M/$23.6M

8. Love Lies Bleeding – $1.5M/$5.6M

9. Cabrini – $1.4M/$16M

10. Bob Marley: One Love – $1.1M/$95.3M
