I’m going to put it all out there, deep fear revelation time. I have always been terrified to go to any Las Vegas shows for fear that a hypnotist would come out and bring me up on stage. Look, I know it’s probably BS, but there’s still a chance I’d end up on the strip in my skivvies clucking like a chicken and that’s not a chance I’m willing to take. While my fear doesn’t have life or death consequences that is definitely not the case in the upcoming Ben Affleck/William Fichtner thriller Hypnotic. Affleck plays detective Daniel Rourke who, while dealing with the disappearance of his daughter a rash of unlikely bank robbery’s pull Rourke into a plot complete with government agents and mind control.
In case you didn’t already guess iconic character actor William Fichtner plays the bad guy, who can seemingly control the reality perceived by others. If I were a betting man I’d say this is all surrounding an MK Ultra type of program which Fichtner’s character heads up and was also responsible for taking Rourke’s daughter. If you weren’t already sold, the film is directed by Robert Rodriguez seemingly flying outside of his comfort zone. Sure the subject matter fits but the film itself doesn’t feel like classic Rodriguez from what we see here. Whatever the case, this trailer has me amped and I’m a lock for seeing where it goes.
