First Look At Joaquin Phoenix As ‘Napoleon’, Apple Announces November Theatrical Release

While Joaquin Phoenix doesn’t have anything to do with Ridley Scott’s upcoming Gladiator sequel, for very good reason, he’s right at the top of the director’s next film for this year, Napoleon, which Apple has just announced a theatrical release date for.

Apple and Sony will team-up on a theatrical release of Napoleon on November 22nd, just in time for Thanksgiving. It will eventually get a streaming date for Apple TV+, but the timing on that has not been revealed.

The news comes with the arrival of the first image, featuring Phoenix as the French military leader and emperor who famously saw defeat at Waterloo. Napoleon’s origin and swift, ruthless rise to power will be seen through the lens of his tumultuous relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine.

Phoenix is joined in the cast by Vanessa Kirby, Tahar Rahim, Ludivine Sagnier, and Ben Miles. David Scarpa wrote the screenplay for Scott to direct.

Napoleon joins Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon as the second major release to be announced for a theatrical release.
