The Beast Wars are here! It’s been five years since Paramount “rebooted” the Transformers franchise with the nostalgic Bumblee. The long wait for a follow-up has brought fans a film that many have been clamoring for, as Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will unleash the Maximals, Terrorcons, and Predacons onto the big screen!
Fresh off red-hot presentation at CinemaCon, a new trailer for Rise of the Beasts is here! The film is set in the ’90s and introduces beloved characters from the Beast Wars CG-animated cartoon series from that era. Ron Perlman voices Maximals leader, Optimus Primal, who takes the form of a gorilla; Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh is Airazor who transforms into a falcon; David Sobolov as Rhinox who turns into a rhino; Tongayi Chirisa as Cheetor; with Peter Dinklage as Terrorcon leader Scorponok, and Michaela Jaé Rodriguez as Nightbird.
Legendary Optimus Prime voice actor Peter Cullen returns as the Autobot leader, with Pete Davidson voicing Autobot spy Mirage, Liza Koshy as Arcee, and Ted Lasso‘s Cristo Fernandez as Wheeljack.
The cast also features Anthony Ramos, Dominique Fishback, Lauren Vélez, and Tobe Nwigwe as humans caught in the middle of the Transformers war.
Creed II‘s Steven Caple Jr. directs from a script by Joby Harold and others. The film is expected to be the first in a brand new trilogy.
Here’s the synopsis: Returning to the action and spectacle that have captured moviegoers around the world, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will take audiences on a ‘90s globetrotting adventure with the Autobots and introduce a whole new faction of Transformers – the Maximals – to join them as allies in the existing battle for earth.
As a die-hard Transformers fan, I’m loving Paramount’s move to incorporate the classic characters. Bumblebee was just the start, and now seeing characters I love such as Arcee, Mirage, and Nightbird makes me extremely happy. Might be time to get another Transformers tattoo!
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts hits theaters on June 9th!
