‘Mortal Kombat 2’: WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes Eyeing Johnny Cage Role?

In a piece of news that seems leaked to start a multi-week feud with The Miz, Fightful Select (via ActioNewz) reports that WWE superstar and most-recent victim of Roman Reigns’ epic world title run, has met for multiple movie roles including Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat 2.

Of course, this is a role that fellow WWE superstar Mike “The Miz” Mizanin has been openly campaigning for. If Cody were to beat him out for it, that would almost certainly become an angle on WWE Monday Night Raw.

The report adds that Cody could be circling a role in Nintendo’s eventual Legend of Zelda movie, too.

Johnny Cage, a cocky Hollywood martial arts actor, was teased at the end of the first Mortal Kombat film.

Cody Rhodes has done plenty of acting outside of the squared circle. He appeared in multiple episodes of Arrow as Derek Sampson, a metahuman who sold the “stardust” drug, an obvious shot at the old Stardust gimmick Cody was saddled with during his first stint in WWE.

There’s no doubt that Cody has aspirations of being the next big WWE superstar to turn to Hollywood. Personally, I think he’s a great actor…for a wrestler, but I’m not sure that translates elsewhere. That’s part of the reason why The Miz, despite his long-running The Marine franchise, has never become a big movie star. He’s better at reality TV, and the same might go for Cody, who also has/had a reality TV show and has appeared in many others.

Coming up for Cody is a match with Brock Lesnar at WWE Backlash.
