Michelle Yeoh Is Returning As Georgiou For ‘Star Trek: Section 31’ Film On Paramount+

Get ready, Trekkies! There’s a new Star Trek movie on the way! And depending on where you fall on the recent run of big-screen efforts, it might be good news to learn that it will be a Paramount+ exclusive. Not only that, but it’ll star Oscar-winning Everything Everywhere All At Once actress Michelle Yeoh.

Deadline confirms that Yeoh will reprise her Star Trek: Discovery role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou in the new film, Star Trek: Section 31. The project has been in the works for years, initially developed as a potential series.

Section 31 was introduced in the best Star Trek series of all-time, Deep Space Nine, and refers to a secret covert operations organization within the utopian United Federation of Planets. Basically, they’re like the MI6 of Star Trek, but their creation was designed to run against everything the Federation stood for. It’ll be interesting to see how Section 31 is portrayed.

“I’m beyond thrilled to return to my ‘Star Trek’ family and to the role I’ve loved for so long,” said Yeoh. “‘Section 31’ has been near and dear to my heart since I began the journey of playing Philippa all the way back when this new golden age of ‘Star Trek’ launched. To see her finally get her moment is a dream come true in a year that’s shown me the incredible power of never giving up on your dreams. We can’t wait to share what’s in store for you, and until then: live long and prosper (unless Emperor Georgiou decrees otherwise)!”

With little success on the feature film front, Paramount has revitalized the Star Trek franchise through streaming. Personally, I don’t know why they bother trying to make movies for theaters right now when a new generation of fans are loving Trek on Paramount+ and mostly everything is going well there.

Filming on Star Trek: Section 31 begins later this year.
