Melissa Barrera Reteams With ‘Scream’ Directors For Mystery Monster Thriller

So far, the relationship between actress Melissa Barrera and the directing duo known as Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett) has worked out beautifully, resulting in Scream and its sequel Scream VI. So why mess with success? Deadline reports Barrera will star in a new untitled mystery monster movie at Universal.

Details on the movie are scarce, but we do know it’ll come from screenwriters Stephen Shields and Guy Busick. The film is also being compared to Universal’s other modern interpretations of classic monsters, such as The Invisible Man and Renfield.

There’s also a Wolfman movie with Ryan Gosling in the works, a vampire film from Nomadland director Chloe Zhao, a Bride of Frankenstein movie, and this summer’s Dracula thriller The Last Voyage of the Demeter.

Coming up for Barrera is Carmen, the musical romance in which she stars alongside Oscar-nominated Aftersun actor Paul Mescal.
