It’s been eight years since we said goodbye to Katniss Everdeen and the world of The Hunger Games and most of us assumed that goodbye would be forever. Maybe in a film that would be the case but this is the real world and those movies made a gajillion dollars so a way back to the world of Panem was destined. Seeing as how the system was completely torn down by the end of Mockingjay: Part 2 we’re not going back in sequel form but instead heading back to the beginning of one Coriolanus Snow, better known to fans of the franchise as President Snow.
Unsurprisingly the detestable dictatorial leader of Panem didn’t start out as a mustache twirling villain. This first trailer introduces us to a normal, if not somewhat pompous looking man in his 20’s who is assigned to mentor the young tributes, turning them into larger then life characters. As anyone would guess, Snow falls for the young tribute from district 12, most likely putting the wheels in motion for the man we will come to know years later.
I can’t close this writeup without mentioning Peter Dinklage who plays the hilariously named creator of the Hunger Games, Casca Highbottom. It wasn’t until he showed up in this trailer that I realized I haven’t seen him in anything since Game of Thrones ended, which is a shame. Thankfully this role seems to be full of meaty goodness for him to chew on. Side note, is it just me or is Dinklage doing an odd Phillip Seymour Hoffman impression with his character?
