Like a lot of others last weekend, I rocked one of my Ninja Turtles shirts while out and about. If you noticed a surge in middle-aged men wearing TMNT, it’s for a good reason. Seth Rogen revealed the voice cast for his upcoming animated movie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem! And yeah, the excitement is through the roof for the Heroes in a Halfshell, especially with today’s teaser trailer debut.
Featuring the voices of Jackie Chan as Master Splinter, The Bear‘s Ayo Odebiri as April O’Neil, Seth Rogen and John Cena as Bebop & Rocksteady, Hannibal Buress as Genghis Frog, Rose Byrne as Leatherhead, Ice Cube as Superfly, Post Malone as Ray Fillet, Paul Rudd as Mondo Gecko, Maya Rudolph as Cynthia Utrom, Giancarlo Esposito a Baxter Stockman, and What We Do in the Shadows star Natasia Demetriou as Wingnut, this is the most star-studded TMNT yet.
As for the Turtles themselves, they’re voiced by Nicolas Cantu as Leonardo, Micah Abbey as Donatello, Shamon Brown Jr. as Michelangelo, and Brady Noon as Raphael.
Perhaps most importantly, the film is directed by Jeff Rowe, who directed the incredible Mitchells vs. the Machines and earned an Oscar nomination for it. This is the latest major comic book adaptation from the duo of Rogen and Evan Goldberg, following Preacher, The Boys, and Invincible.
Here’s the synopsis: After years of being sheltered from the human world, the Turtle brothers set out to win the hearts of New Yorkers and be accepted as normal teenagers through heroic acts. Their new friend April O’Neil helps them take on a mysterious crime syndicate, but they soon get in over their heads when an army of mutants is unleashed upon them.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem opens August 4th in theaters.
