‘Mother Mary’: Anne Hathaway And Michaela Cole To Lead David Lowery’s Musical Drama For A24

Keeping his feet in both the major studio and the indie worlds, David Lowery is set to follow his upcoming Disney film Peter Pan & Wendy with a project that’s miles apart creatively. Lowery will partner up once again with A24 for Mother Mary, a film that’s set to star Anne Hathaway and I May Destroy You and Wakanda Forever‘s Michaela Coel.

A musical drama, Lowery’s film is described as “an epic pop melodrama following a fictional musician (Hathaway) and her relationship with an iconic fashion designer (Coel).”

On top of that, Jack Antonoff and Charli XCX will be contributing original music to the film.

Lowery and A24 go back a long way. They were behind his 2017 film A Ghost Story, along with 2021’s acclaimed The Green Knight. So it makes sense for that partnership to continue because it’s brought both sides a lot of accolades.

No word on when Mother Mary will shoot, but the sooner is definitely the better.
