Jenna Ortega Reportedly Eyeing ‘Beetlejuice’ Sequel Role

Jenna Ortega continues to be drawn to the Tim Burton universe. The Wednesday star is reportedly “circling” a role in Beetlejuice 2, according to THR. The film would reunite her with Burton, who is expected to direct.

The film would be a sequel to Burton’s 1988 classic which starred Michael Keaton as the titular demon. Keaton is also expected to return, reprising one of his most popular and enduring roles. Sources say Ortega would play the daughter of Winona Ryder’s character, Lydia.  It’s unclear if anyone else from the original would be returning other than Keaton and Burton.

Ortega has been on fire lately. Her role as Wednesday Addams in Burton’s hit Netflix series Wednesday has turned her into a social media darling. She can be seen this week once again being chased by Ghostface in Scream VIShe will also be hosting Saturday Night Live.

All of this said, Beetlejuice 2 seems like a longshot to actually happen. Attempts at a sequel have been ongoing for decades, with numerous writers and filmmakers, including Burton himself, being flaky about it. Touching a beloved film like Beetlejuice is a dangerous prospect, and Warner Bros., which refuses to comment on this news, could decide otherwise.
