‘Billy Summers’: JJ Abrams And Leonardo DiCaprio Teaming To Adapt Stephen King Crime Story

It’s never too far until the next Stephen King adaptation, and now Deadline has word on the latest that has some interesting names attached. Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to adapt King’s bestseller, Billy Summers, with JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way aboard to produce.

If all goes according to plan, Abrams could direct DiCaprio in the film about retiring hitman Billy Summers, who takes on one last high-paying assignment to take out another hitman before he can turn informant. To do it, Billy goes undercover as a writer in a small town, only to grow wary of the people who hired him…and for good reason.

The film will have a script by The Last Samurai co-writers Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz.

Billy Summers has initially been shopped around as a 10-episode series, until the decision was made turn it into a single film.
