Hard to believe it’s been seven years since Ben Affleck directed Live by Night, the film that sorta began his emotional downward spiral. Affleck has bounced back in front of the camera already, but now he gets back behind it with Air, which is shaping up to be a major film for Amazon Studios following their acquisition of MGM.
Air centers on the groundbreaking partnership between rookie Michael Jordan and Nike’s Phil Knight and Sonny Vaccaro, played by Affleck and his pal Matt Damon, respectively. The union of Jordan the shoe brand would fundamentally change the way we look at athletes and corporate sponsorships.
Also in the cast are Jason Bateman, Viola Davis, Chris Messina, Marlon Wayans, Chris Tucker, Matthew Maher, and Tom Papa. Alex Convery wrote the screenplay.
Amazon is planning a big rollout for this one. Air will hit more than 3000 theaters on April 5th before going to Prime Video exclusively about 45 days later.
From award-winning director Ben Affleck, AIR reveals the unbelievable game-changing partnership between a then-rookie Michael Jordan and Nike’s fledgling basketball division, which revolutionized the world of sports and contemporary culture with the Air Jordan brand. This moving story follows the career-defining gamble of an unconventional team with everything on the line, the uncompromising vision of a mother who knows the worth of her son’s immense talent, and the basketball phenom who would become the greatest of all time.
