‘About My Father’ Trailer: Robert De Niro And Sebastian Maniscalco Meet The In-Laws In New Family Comedy

Meet the Parents is 23 years old (!!!), and like it or not, Robert De Niro has gotten a lot of mileage out of it. He’s still making movies that play off of our memories of that film, like his latest, About My Father, which reteams De Niro with comedian and The Irishman co-star Sebastian Maniscalco.

De Niro joins with Maniscalco, who is apparently “the hottest comic in America” or something? I’ve never heard of him. Anyway, Maniscalco stars as Sebastian, who is encouraged by his fiancee to invite his Italian immigrant father, played by De Niro, to meet her wealthy family over a tumultuous Fourth of July weekend.

The formula is pretty basic, with the culture clash humor running high. But this stuff works, people like it, and De Niro is always game for it.

Also in the cast are Leslie Bibb, Anders Holm, David Rasche, Brett Dier, and Kim Cattrall. The film is directed by Laura Terruso (Work It), and co-written by Maniscalco and Austen Earl. Chris Weitz and Paul Weitz are aboard as producers.

About My Father opens on May 26th.

The hottest comic in America, Sebastian Maniscalco joins forces with legendary Italian-American and two-time Oscar® winner, Robert De Niro (Best Actor, Raging Bull, 1980), in the new comedy ABOUT MY FATHER. The film centers around Sebastian (Maniscalco) who is encouraged by his fiancée (Leslie Bibb) to bring his immigrant, hairdresser father, Salvo (De Niro), to a weekend get-together with her super-rich and exceedingly eccentric family (Kim Cattrall, Anders Holm, Brett Dier, David Rasche). The weekend develops into what can only be described as a culture clash, leaving Sebastian and Salvo to discover that the great thing about family is everything about family.
