‘The Five Devils’ Teaser: Adèle Exarchopoulos Stars In Léa Mysius’ Senses-Shattering Fantasy-Drama

Look, you’ve got me at “Adèle Exarchopoulos”. The 29-year-old actress is still probably best known for her breakout role in Blue is the Warmest Colour. She’s not only one of the most breathtaking actresses in the world, but also one of the best for taking on roles that always prove challenging. And that trend looks to continue with the brief teaser for The Five Devils, from Ava director Léa Mysius.

It’s hard to tell exactly what is going on in the short 15-seconds of footage for The Five Devils. We see a lot of reaction shots, some screaming, Exarchopoulos surrounded by flames, and more, but hardly anything coherent.

The synopsis makes some sense of what we can expect: Vicky, a strange and solitary little girl, has a magical gift: she can reproduce any scent she likes, and collects them in a series of carefully labeled jars. She has secretly captured the scent of Joanne, her mother for whom she nurtures a wild, excessive love. When her father’s sister Julia bursts into their life, Vicky reproduces her smell and is transported into dark and archaic memories which lead her to uncover the secrets of her village, her family and her own existence.

Yeah, so pretty goddamned weird and stylish. Reviews were mostly positive following its debut at Cannes last year.

Also starring Swala Emati, Moustapha Mbengue, Daphne Patakia, and Sally Dramé, The Five Devils opens on March 24th in select theaters and the MUBI streaming service. Exarchopoulos was also recently seen in the Sundance love triangle, Passages, also acquired by MUBI, so clearly they are also fans of the actress.
