It’s happening! Every year, on the day we celebrate by stuffing our faces with turkey and stuffing, I post the faux trailer for Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving. The hilarious teaser, which was released as part of Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s Grindhouse double feature, is a gruesome slasher set during the holiday. And now Thanksgiving is finally becoming a feature film itself that Roth will be working on.
However, Roth can’t be in two places at once. You’ll probably recall that Roth has been working on a film adaptation of the popular Borderlands shooter game, with a star-studded cast that includes Cate Blanchette, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Haley Bennett, Edgar Ramirez, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Florian Munteanu. Well, it needs a couple more weeks of reshoots, but since Roth will be busy with a feature-length version of Thanksgiving, that job has gone to Deadpool and Terminator: Dark Fate director Tim Miller.
Thanksgiving is set up at Spyglass Media, home of the Scream franchise, with a script by Jeff Rendell. Initially, the trailer was shot with some actors from Roth’s Hostel movie, such as Jordan Ladd and Jay Hernandez. Michael Biehn was also cast as a sheriff investigating a series of Thanksgiving murders committed by a killer in a pilgrim suit. Yes, it was all very ridiculous but also extremely violent, as you can see by the trailer below. Filming on Thanksgiving will begin this March and I can’t wait until Roth is ready to serve it to us.
