‘The Devil In The White City’: Todd Field Follows Keanu Reeves In Exiting The Hulu Miniseries

And suddenly things are looking very very wrong with Hulu’s The Devil in the White City miniseries. Just a few short days removed from Keanu Reeves’ departure from the Martin Scorsese/Leonardo DiCaprio-produced project, now director Todd Field has backed out, as well.

Variety has the news but no further information on Field’s exit, other than to say that a search is on for a new director and star. Field was not only set to direct episodes but to serve as an exec-producer of the adaptation of Erik Larson’s novel set during the 1893 World Fair where a serial killer plays his trade and a doctor hopes to make a big impression. The project has been in the works for well over a decade, but took off when Hulu came aboard to develop it as a limited series.

Field is having a moment. The director best known for dramas In the Bedroom and Little Children has recently made his comeback with Tár, which has been receiving near-universal acclaim.
