‘West Side Story’ Star Rachel Zegler Didn’t Get An Invite To The Oscars

In one of the weirder stories for this awards season, West Side Story actress Rachel Zegler, who just won a Golden Globe for her performance, hasn’t been invited to attend the Academy Awards. Say wha??

That’s weird, right? The actress revealed the info on Instagram after a fan expressed excitement to see what she’d be wearing to the event.

“I’m not invited so sweatpants and my boyfriend’s flannel”, was her response.

Studios are given a certain amount of tickets to be distributed as they see fit. I guess Disney didn’t think Zegler warranted any, despite the universal acclaim for her lead performance as Maria. West Side Story is one of the films nominated for Best Picture. Did anybody give any thought to how awkward it would be if the film won and Zegler was not there?

Zegler continued, suggesting that she is still attempting to fix the situation because it’s clear that it is hurting her not to be there…

“Idk y’all i have tried it all but it doesn’t seem to be happening,” Zegler wrote in the comments section of her latest Instagram post.

“I hope some last minute miracle occurs and i can celebrate our film in person but hey, that’s how it goes sometimes, i guess. … i’m disappointed, too. but that’s okay. so proud of our movie.”

No matter what, Zegler promises to “root for west side story from my couch and be proud of the work we so tirelessly did 3 years ago.” [Variety]
