Dune was one of the few Warner Bros. releases to overcome being available in theaters and HBO Max simultaneously. The expensive gamble of an adaptation earned $400M at the box office, and quickly earned itself a sequel, as well. With Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, and others set to return, and Florence Pugh reportedly up to join, Deadline reports that another major addition to the franchise could be on the way.
Austin Butler, who is set for a huge role starring in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic, is reportedly in talks to play Feyd-Rautha in Dune: Part Two. The role was memorably filled by Sting in David Lynch’s 1984 film. In the Herbert novels, Feyd-Rautha is the young nephew of Stellan Skarsgard’s Baron Vladimir Harkonnen of House Harkonnen, and a major villain for the rest of the story.
This is just another step on the rise of Butler’s career. He recently had a small role in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and also appears in the Apple series Masters of Air.
Dune: Part Two opens October 20th 2023.
