In my darker moments, I’ll sometimes wish that all of our warring factions, ideological rivals, had to fight out their differences in bloodsport. Throw them in a pit and lets see who wins. Well, that’s sortof what we get in the provocative new film, Asking For It, which sets a group of violent feminists against a bunch of alt-right misogynists.
The cast alone is pretty intimidating, with Vanessa Hudgens, Alexandra Shipp, Kiersey Clemons, Radha Mitchell, and more leading a vigilante group known as The Cherry Bombers. In an interesting bit of casting, The Flash and Fantastic Beasts star Ezra Miller plays the leader of an extremist men’s rights group.
Also in the cast are Gabourey Sidibe, Casey Cott, Leslie Stratton, Leyna Bloom, Casey Camp-Horinek, Lisa Yaro, and Luke Hemsworth. Eamon O’Rourke wrote and directed the film in his feature debut.
Asking For It opens in theaters and VOD on March 4th!
After small town waitress Joey (Kiersey Clemons) is sexually assaulted after a date with her old friend Mike (Casey Cott), she befriends mysterious stranger Regina (Alexandra Shipp). Regina introducers her to The Cherry Bombers, an all femme gang including Beatrice (Vanessa Hudgens), Lily (Leslie Stratton), Sal (Radha Mitchell), Jett (Leyna Bloom), Angie (Lisa Yaro), Fala (Casey Camp-Horinek), and Rudy (Gabourey Sidibe). All suffering from past traumas, together they fight a misogynistic society by targeting violent frat boys, a corrupt police force of human traffickers led by Sheriff Morel (David Patrick Kelly), and the dangerous alt-right group MFM (Men’s First Movement) headed by Mark Vanderhill (Ezra Miller). As Joey is drawn further into their chaotic world, Sal’s old flame, Logan County Sheriff Vernon (Luke Hemsworth), investigates MFM, leading to a thrilling showdown.
