For years we’ve been calling it Amazon’s Lord of the Rings TV series. With the record-breaking amount of money they’ve put behind the show, you’d think it could at least have a better title than that. Well, now it does, although it isn’t much of an upgrade.
A new teaser reveals the full title as The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Eh. The title should tell you a lot about what the series is about, as it will follow the forging of the rings and chronicle Sauron’s rise to power.
The prequel boasts a massive ensemble that includes Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, and Dylan Smith. J.A. Bayona, Wayne Che Yip, and Charlotte Brändström will direct first season episodes.
Showrunners J.D. Payne & Patrick McKay had this to say…
“This is a title that we imagine could live on the spine of a book next to J.R.R. Tolkien’s other classics. The Rings of Power unites all the major stories of Middle-earth’s Second Age: the forging of the rings, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the epic tale of Númenor, and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men. Until now, audiences have only seen on-screen the story of the One Ring – but before there was one, there were many…and we’re excited to share the epic story of them all.”
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power comes to Prime Video on September 2nd.
