‘The Batman’ Spinoff Series About Penguin Is Coming To HBO Max

Matt Reeves’ The Batman may not be part of the DCEU, but who needs it when the filmmaker can build his own cinematic universe around the Caped Crusader? With Robert Pattinson suiting up as the Dark Knight, and a Gotham PD series coming to HBO Max, Variety now reports that The Penguin is also about to be put in the spotlight.

A spinoff series centered on Oswald Cobblepot aka Penguin is coming to HBO MAX from Agents of SHIELD writer Lauren LeFranc. Penguin’s rise through the Gotham criminal underworld will be the focus, and you can see how easily this could tie-in to the Gotham PD show, as well.

As for Colin Farrell, who plays Penguin in The Batman, he could reprise the role but is not yet officially on board. Considering his role in the film is said to be minor, this would be a good way to make the best use of his star power. Although he might not be too eager to don the heavy makeup he sports in the film, so that could be a problem.

Perhaps we’ll learn more when DC FanDome arrives next month? The Batman hits theaters on March 4th 2022.
