The Hitman’s Bodyguard sorta came out of nowhere back in 2017. The foul-mouthed action comedy gave us Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson laughing and cursing it up to the tune of $176M worldwide and was one of the summer’s biggest hits. A sequel was all but inevitable, because who doesn’t want more of the same? And that’s what we’re getting with The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, which brings back everybody we loved from the first movie, while adding a few more key names into the mix.
Salma Hayek, who played the spicy Sonia Kincaid, wife to Jackson’s hitman character Darius, takes the spotlight here as she helps bodyguard Bryce (Reynolds) rescue her husband from an assassination. The plot’s pretty much the same because why rock the boat? Frank Grillo, Morgan Freeman, and Antonio Banderas joining the cast should help keep things interesting.
Once again penned by Tom O’Connor and directed by Patrick Hughes, The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard opens June 16th.
The world’s most lethal odd couple – bodyguard Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds) and hitman Darius Kincaid (Samuel L. Jackson) – are back on another life-threatening mission. Still unlicensed and under scrutiny, Bryce is forced into action by Darius’s even more volatile wife, the infamous international con artist Sonia Kincaid (Salma Hayek). As Bryce is driven over the edge by his two most dangerous protectees, the trio gets in over their heads in a global plot and soon finds that they are all that stands between Europe and a vengeful and powerful madman (Antonio Banderas). Joining in the fun and deadly mayhem is Morgan Freeman as…well, you’ll have to see.
