If you need someone to the rescue, whether it’s out in the far reaches of the galaxy, on an island overrun by dinosaurs, or in the future, Chris Pratt is your guy. This summer he stars in Amazon’s sci-fi summer blockbuster The Tomorrow War, and following yesterday’s first-look photos we now have the first actual trailer.
Chris Pratt is joined by Yvonne Strahovski, JK Simmons, Betty Gilpin, Sam Richardson, and more in the story of soldiers from the present drafted to fight a war against alien invaders 30 years in the future.
The original title of the film was Ghost Draft, which sounds cooler to me and would’ve made just as much sense. Still, this looks pretty awesome and like Amazon Studios may have one of the summer’s biggest releases on their hands. They acquired the film from Paramount, who decided not to wait out the pandemic for a theatrical release.
Behind the camera is Chris McKay, making his live-action debut after directing The Lego Batman Movie and episodes of Robot Chicken. This is a pretty big step up.
The Tomorrow War hits Amazon Prime on July 2nd.
In The Tomorrow War, the world is stunned when a group of time travelers arrive from the year 2051 to deliver an urgent message: Thirty years in the future mankind is losing a global war against a deadly alien species. The only hope for survival is for soldiers and civilians from the present to be transported to the future and join the fight. Among those recruited is high school teacher and family man Dan Forester (Chris Pratt). Determined to save the world for his young daughter, Dan teams up with a brilliant scientist (Yvonne Strahovski) and his estranged father (J.K. Simmons) in a desperate quest to rewrite the fate of the planet.
