‘White Bird’: Gillian Anderson To Star In ‘Wonder’ Spinoff Set In WWII

There’s a Wonder cinematic universe happening, sort of. Last year, we learned Marc Forster would be directing an adaptation of White Bird: A Wonder Story, based on the “creative companion” graphic novel from author R.J. Palacio that would follow bully Julian Albans, the same kid who terrorized the disfigured child in Wonder. There are still some things we don’t know, but for now we have at least one member of the cast.

Deadline reports Gillian Anderson will star in White Bird: A Wonder Story, but the story won’t just be about Julian Albans. The main focus of this “creative companion” will be on Julian’s grandmother during WWII. Mark Bomback (War for the Planet of the Apes) wrote the screenplay.

The story follows “a young Jewish girl hidden away by a boy and his family in Nazi-occupied France during World War II. Anderson will play Vivienne, the woman who along with her family must make unimaginable choices.”

It’s still unclear if Bryce Gheisar, who played Albans in the 2017 film, will reprise the role, or if any of his co-stars will do the same.

Anderson is coming off her awards-nominated performance as Margaret Thatcher in The Crown, and big screen roles in The Sunlit Night and The Spy Who Dumped Me.
