I don’t know if Barb & Star Go To Vista Del Mar will be funny, it should be given the reunion of Bridesmaids duo Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo, but I do know one thing: everybody had a blast filming whatever this thing is.
Wiig and Mumolo reunite as stars and co-writers, just as they did with Bridesmaids, for a film about longtime best friends who leave their midwest homes for a vacation in Vista Del Mar, Florida. And…well, odd shit happens because these two ladies are, to put it nicely, wacko. But in a really sweet Fargo-esque kind of way. There’s no attempt at all to tell us if there’s more to the plot, however, other than making hot dog soup and badly attempting to flirt with Jamie Dornan.
And why the Stranger Things-esque intro? This thing is just weird, which makes me really want to see it.
The cast includes Damon Wayans Jr., Fortune Feimster, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Rose Abdoo, Vanessa Bayer, Phyllis Smith, and Kwame Patterson, with Josh Greenbaum behind the camera.
Barb & Star Go To Vista Del Mar hits VOD on February 12th.
