Damn, look at this hot project coming together at the AFM! It’s got one of today’s best political satirists, Armando Iannucci, writing and directing a conspiracy thriller led by James McAvoy, Alicia Vikander, and Taron Egerton. Wow.
Details on the film remain under wraps, but I can’t imagine this one being on the market for very long. Iannucci hasn’t directed a movie since 2019’s The Personal History of David Copperfield. He is best known for creating the HBO political comedy Veep, as well as Steve Coogan’s Alan Partridge character, and for directing the movies In the Loop and The Death of Stalin.
I have a hard time buying that Iannucci is doing a straight conspiracy thriller. There will likely be comedic and satirical elements to it.
McAvoy, Vikander, and Egerton have never worked with Iannucci before, but I can see them all fitting in quite well. Vikander is an Oscar winner for her performance in The Danish Girl. McAvoy’s directorial debut, California Schemin’, is out now. Everyone at TIFF was raving about Egerton’s performance in Everybody Wants to F*ck Me which opens next year. [Deadline]
