It’s been twenty-four years since Friday After Next, and if I had a dollar for every time someone asked me if Ice Cube was making a fourth movie, I’d have…well, hundreds of dollars in my bank account. Well, those people can rest easy. It’s been a long time coming, but Cube is finally moving forward on Last Friday, and the film has just scored a director in Lawrence Lamont, who directed the Friday-esque comedy One of Them Days.
Ice Cube will write and star in Last Friday, the fourth movie in the franchise that he started with 1995’s Friday. It was followed by Next Friday in 2000, and Friday After Next in 2002. The comedies followed the misadventures of Cube’s character, Craig, in his South Central Los Angeles neighborhood.
We don’t know whether Chris Tucker will return as Smokey, or whether Mike Epps will return as Day-Day. Perhaps both will show up? You can almost bet money on Cube’s son, O’Shea Jackson Jr., having a role, as he’s been publicly lobbying for it, threatening to “call mom” if he doesn’t hear back.
….I haven’t received any emails or calls from my agent about this project….
….I swear…. to God……I will call mom. https://t.co/zqGcKdCRrV

Released in 2025, One of Them Days was a low-key treat. Starring Keke Palmer and SZA, it followed two best friends just trying to make rent, and I said in my review that it gave off “Craig and Smokey” vibes. It would be great if both actresses could be included, somehow. Lamont showed what he can do with the kind of buddy comedy that Friday fans will expect, so this is a brilliant move.
