A Nicolas Cage unchained is always the best, and it’s to our benefit that he keeps seeking out roles that let him cut loose. A movie with the title Best Pancakes in the County seems like a sure bet for Cage at his most unhinged, and based on this trailer and the gonzo prosthetic nose he’s sporting, that’s what we’re going to get.
Cage stars in the new trailer from writer/director Ken Sanzel, who worked with Cage on Kill Chain back in 2019. He also wrote the Chow Yun Fat/Mira Sorvino action flick The Replacement Killers, a low-key favorite of mine.
Also starring Justin Long, Shelley Hennig, and Ravi Patel, the film stars Cage as S.O.B., who, along with his ridiculous white man afro and big nose, is at the center of a violent standoff over a hard drive at a local pancake house.
Here’s the synopsis: “Set over the course of one explosive night, ‘Best Pancakes In The County’ transforms an unassuming small-town diner into the epicenter of a deadly standoff involving rogue federal agents, a fast-talking con man with a dangerous past, and a waitress harboring secrets of her own. As loyalties blur and tensions erupt, survival depends on who can outthink — and outgun — everyone else.”
Oh yeah, count me in for this one. IFC will release Best Pancakes in the County in theaters and VOD on November 20th.
