Jane Levy (Evil Dead) and Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day) are Scream Queens of the highest order, and it’s past time that they battle a masked killer together. That’s what Midnight Madness fans got to see at the world premiere of River at TIFF just last month. The film was a smash hit with the genre crowd, which is why Blumhouse Atomic Monster/Universal Pictures swept in to acquire it from Shudder, and now the first trailer has arrived.
River is set to hit theaters on January 15th 2027. The film stars Levy, Rothe, and Max Mattern as siblings reunited to spread the ashes of their dead fathe in the river he loved so much. Unfortunately for them, this somber reunion turns deadly when their boat breaks down, and they are stalked by a pair of masked killers.
A cool little note: playing the main attacker is Dane DiLiegro, who played the Feral Predator in Prey. He also played the most deadly lycan in Werewolves a couple of years ago. Hunting is in this guy’s DNA.
Joshua Giuliano made his directorial debut on River and also wrote the screenplay. You can check out the trailer below, and also my early review here!
