Box Office: ‘Super Mario Galaxy’ Crosses $600M Globally As ‘You, Me & Tuscany’ Opens With Just $8M

1. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie– $69M/$308.1M

Even with multiple new titles opening this week, the top 3 remained unchanged. Once again in the top spot is The Super Mario Galaxy Movie which fell just 47% and added another $69M for $308M domestically. That’s considerably less than its predecessor which had $92M in the second week. Worldwide, the Nintendo adaptation has $628M and should easily pass the $1B mark if this rate continues.

2. Project Hail Mary– $24.5M/$256.6M

3. The Drama– $8.7M/$30.8M

4. You, Me & Tuscany– $8M

Universal had the top new release of the week with the romantic comedy You, Me & Tuscany, which set a pair of gorgeous stars, Halle Bailey and Rege Jean-Page, in an equally gorgeous Italian setting. The result was disappointing, though, as couples either stayed in or went to see a holdover from last week, possibly The Drama which is another relationship film with greater star power (Robert Pattinson, Zendaya) and a catchy hook. I skipped it, too, so I don’t blame them.

5. Hoppers– $4.1M/$157.1M

6. BTS WORLD TOUR ‘ARIRANG’ in GOYANG: LIVE VIEWING– $2.4M

7. Faces of Death (review)- $1.7M

IFC and Shudder released Faces of Death, starring Barbie Ferreira and Dacre Montgomery in a revitalized homage to the cult favorite snuff film from 1978. With reviews from critics and audiences in the upper 60s on Rotten Tomatoes, the word of mouth has been pretty quiet, and it doesn’t help that it was filmed three years ago and met with multiple delays. Personally, I dug it and its commentary on our lust for both violence and attention. Perhaps it’ll do better over the long haul.

8. Exit 8 (review)- $1.4M

NEON found a minor success with Japanese video game adaptation Exit 8, a thriller about a man stuck in a seemingly endless maze of subway tunnels. Reviews have been through the roof, with 95% from critics and 82% from audiences.

9. A Great Awakening– $1.2M/$4.8M

10. Reminders of Him– $1M/$47.4M
