‘Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma’ Trailer: Gillian Anderson And Hannah Eindbinder Enter A Blood-Soaked World Of Desire

The summer camp slasher is an old standby of the horror genre, but to be honest, it’s been done so much that few even bother anymore. And now here comes Jane Schoenbrun, looking to blow it up for good with their upcoming flick, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasama, starring Gillian Anderson (The X-Files) and Hannah Einbinder (Hacks).

Written and directed by Schoenbrun, whose previous film I Saw the TV Glow was championed a couple of years ago, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma explores similar territory; a queer-coded thriller looking at the identity crisis kids face in a world dominated by digital content and social media. There’s definitely some David Lynch influence going on here, too.

Here’s the synopsis: After years of slapdash sequels and waning fandom, the Camp Miasma slasher franchise is handed over to an enthusiastic young director for resurrection. But when she visits the original movie’s star, a now-reclusive actress shrouded in mystery, the two women fall into a blood-soaked world of desire, fear, and delirium.

Brad Pitt is among the film’s producers through his Plan B label.

Also in the cast are Eva Victor, Zach Cherry, Sarah Sherman, Patrick Fischler, Dylan baker, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Kevin McDonald, and Quintessa Swindell. A stacked group, by the far the biggest of Schoenbrun’s career.

Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma opens August 7th from MUBI.
