Daisy Ridley Says Rey Skywalker ‘Star Wars’ Film Will Be Worth The Wait

Two years ago, we learned Daisy Ridley would be doing something she said she wouldn’t do, namely returning to the Star Wars universe as Rey Skywalker. The new film, to be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and reportedly titled New Jedi Order, has basically been at a standstill ever since, with some believing the project dead. But Ridley doesn’t think so, and in a recent interview with IGN, she says the wait will be worth it for fans.

“Honestly, there are scripts that I read five years ago, and now I’ve gone, ‘Oh, maybe they will actually happen. I think over the years, I’ve learned how the reality of getting any film made is so massive. The hurdles are vast . . . But with this [Rey movie], particularly, I know that incredible voices and creatives are part of it, and I know the wait will be worth it.

Cool, so it’s still happening. At least Ridley believes it to be. The last we heard, George Nolfi (The Adjustment Bureau) had come aboard to tackle the screenplay. That was in January, and he was just the latest in a long line of writers taking a crack at it. Steven Knight, Damon Lindelof, and Justin Britt-Gibson preceded him.

Odd that Lucasfilm hasn’t given a female writer a shot yet.

We’ll see what happens. The film isn’t on Disney’s schedule right now. That could change at any moment. The next Star Wars movie on the big screen will be The Mandalorian and Grogu in May 2026.
