Audiences traveled down the yellow brick road and into theaters for Wicked: For Good, earning $150M domestic and a worldwide total of $226M. The stateside number beats last year’s $112M by the first chapter, and becomes the biggest debut ever for a Broadway adaptation. 5. Rental Family (review)- $3.3M
Strong critical reviews and word of mouth could only carry Brendan Fraser’s Tokyo dramedy Rental Family to a $3.3M debut weekend. The film about an American actor who sells his services to play friends and loved ones could see a bounce if awards season buzz for Fraser picks up, as I hope it does.
