Zach Cregger’s Weapons is one of the biggest hits of the year, and the breakout character from it was Amy Madigan’s creepy Aunt Gladys. A rumor from a few weeks ago teased the possibility of a prequel movie centering on Gladys. And now Cregger is confirming that not only is this rumor true, but he’s had this plan in the works all along.
Cregger revealed the news to the horror outlet Fangoria, stating that he’s already been talking to Warner Bros. about it…
“It is real, and I’ve been talking to Warner Bros. about it. There’s a story, and I’m pretty excited about it. It’s not bullshit,” Cregger said. “I was ready. I had it kind of in my pocket before the movie came out.”
We’ll have to wait a while before we see Aunt Gladys again, because Cregger has a lot on his plate. He’ll be jumping into his first franchise with Sony’s Resident Evil reboot starring Austin Abrams and Paul Walter Hauser. Cregger’s Resident Evil won’t be based on any particular story from the Capcom video games, but will exist on its own alongside events in Resident Evil 2.
“I’m not telling Leon’s story. You know what I mean? I’m not using any of the characters from the games. I’m telling my story that exists in the world of ‘Resident Evil 2.’ You could play 2 and never know that the events of my story are happening right over there, but they are…”I’m following the rules, but I’m not claiming any key canon characters because we have those in the games.”
Weapons is available right now on digital, and you can order it here. If you want it on 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD on October 14th you can get it here.
