Julia Ducournau won the Palme d’Or at Cannes with her last film, Titane, a body horror as equally visceral as her breakout, Raw. Last night, Ducournau was back and competing for the award again with her latest, Alpha, and NEON has dropped a new teaser for the film, and fans of the French filmmaker will not be disappointed.
Alpha stars Tahar Rahim, Golshifteh Farahani, Mélissa Boros, Emma Mackey, Finnegan Oldfield and Louai El Amrousy. Described as Ducournau’s most personal and profound film yet, it’s set in a fictionalized city in the 1980s.
Here’s the synopsis:
“Alpha. A troubled 13-year-old lives with her single mom. Their world collapses the day she returns from school with a tattoo on her arm.”
While a date hasn’t been confirmed, Alpha is expected hit theaters in October.
